Delivery, returns, repairs and which toy fits which child

Every number on this page is the one we actually work to. If something here turns out to be wrong for your order, the number on this page is the one that stands.

Sending something back

Ninety days from the day it lands, played with or not, as long as every piece of the set comes back. Return postage inside Finland is on us — email the bench and a label arrives the same day. Elsewhere the return postage is yours.

The refund goes back to the card you paid with, in full, within five working days of the parcel reaching Kauppakatu. We do not offer credit notes instead, and we never ask why.

  • 90 daysto change your mind
  • €0return postage within Finland
  • 5 daysfrom parcel to refund

When something breaks

A split along the grain is our fault and we replace the part free, with no time limit, for as long as the toy is on the shelf. A chewed corner or a lost wheel is life, and the spare costs €3 a bag with the postage on us.

Nothing here is glued shut. Pegs tap out with a pencil and axles pull straight. Send a photo of the part and Roosa will name it, post it and tell you which way round it goes.

  • Freereplacement for a split in the grain
  • €3a bag of spare wheels, pegs or cord
  • Foreverspares, while the toy is still made

Seven answers before you have to email anybody

Which toy suits which age?

Twelve months and up: Pull-Along Peg Cart and Rolling Tipper. Eighteen months: Mouse Band, Peg & Shape Stacker and Pull-Along Hound. Two years: Lakeside Track Loop, Elephant Parade and Town Block Tub. Three years: Thirty-Six Block Box, Alphabet Wagons, Yard Tractor & Trailer and Carved Pony. The band is the one we tested, not the lowest one the law allows.

How big is each box, and how heavy?

From 180 × 140 × 90 mm and 0.4 kg for the Pull-Along Peg Cart, to 520 × 320 × 140 mm and 3.1 kg for the Lakeside Track Loop. The Block Box crate is 340 × 240 × 190 mm and 2.6 kg. Boxed size is also the storage size, because the crate is the box.

What comes in the parcel?

The toy in its crate, a 15 ml tin of the linseed and beeswax finish, a sanding pad, a bag of spare pegs where the toy has them, and a folded card naming the person who made it. No plastic, no inner bag, no printed catalogue.

Is it safe to chew?

Yes. The finish is food-safe linseed oil and beeswax, nothing else, and the dyes on the coloured sets are the same ones used on children's cutlery. Everything is tested to EN 71 parts 1, 2 and 3, renewed in January 2026. Nothing is lacquered, so nothing can flake.

How do I clean one?

A damp cloth and, if it needs it, a drop of washing-up liquid. Dry it straight away. Never a dishwasher and never soaking — birch raises its grain and stays rough. Once a year, rub the sanding pad over it and wipe the tin across; it will look better than new.

Can a nursery or a shop order in bulk?

Ten or more of one toy is 15% off with a six-week lead time, because we turn it as one batch. Wholesale for shops starts at thirty units across the range. Use the form below with the toy, the count and the date you need it, and you will have a firm answer within two working days.

When does a sold-out toy come back?

The card says the date, and the date is the one on the bench calendar. The Carved Pony & Story Stones is back on 14 March. Ask below to go on the list and you will get one email on the morning the batch is boxed, at the same minute as everyone else on it, with the price held.

Ask the bench

One of the four of us reads this, usually Roosa, and you will have a real answer within one working day. There is no ticket number and no bot.

Or come in: Kauppakatu 18, 40100 Jyväskylä, Thursday to Saturday, 10 to 17. The seconds table is the first Saturday of the month, and somebody will be at a bench behind the counter whatever day you pick.

  1. 1The slip prints at the end of the bench, usually within the hour.
  2. 2Whoever knows the answer writes back — by name, from a real address.
  3. 3If it needs a part or a date, you get the part number and the date in the same email.

So we know who we are writing back to.
Used for this answer only, never for a list.
Pick the nearest one — it decides whose bench the slip lands on.
A photo helps for a repair; reply to our answer and attach it.

Nothing here answered it?

Go and look at the shelf, or open the crate everybody starts with. Both pages carry the same numbers as this one.
