Which toy suits which age

Age bands are the ones we tested, not the ones the box could legally carry. Under eighteen months every part is wider than 45 mm, so nothing fits through a choke tube. From two years the coupled and stacked toys start to make sense, and the Block Box and Alphabet Wagons keep going until about seven.

How much shelf it takes

Every toy arrives in the crate or box it lives in, so the boxed size below is also the storage size. Weights include the finish tin and the spare-peg bag.

Smallest
Pull-Along Peg Cart — 180 × 140 × 90 mm, 0.4 kg.
Typical
Peg & Shape Stacker — 240 × 240 × 220 mm, 1.2 kg.
Largest
Lakeside Track Loop — 520 × 320 × 140 mm, 3.1 kg.
Capacity
The Block Box crate holds its 36 blocks plus about 20 blocks from any other set.
Stacking
Every crate is cut to the same 190 mm depth, so a row of them lines up on one shelf without a gap.
Parcel
Two toys travel in one outer box up to 4 kg — the postage is charged once, not twice.

What happens between the order and the doormat

    Order lands on the bench

    Orders print on a slip at the end of the bench. If a toy on your order is down to its last one, Roosa emails you the same day.

  2. 2

    Oiled and checked

    Each toy gets a final coat and a shake test. Gift notes are written by hand onto a folded card — ask in the order notes.

  3. 3

    Boxed and posted

    Within three working days. €5.90 in Finland, free over €60; €12.50 Nordics and Baltics; €19.90 elsewhere in the EU.

  4. 4

    Ninety days to change your mind

    Played with or not. Finnish return postage is on us; a refund reaches your card within five working days of the parcel arriving.

Shelf questions

Five things worth knowing before you choose

Can I pick the finish?

Three finishes on every toy except the painted ones: natural (sanded, unfinished), oiled (linseed and beeswax, the default) and smoked (alder darkened with ammonia, €6 more). The finish is chosen on the product page before you reserve.

Do you gift wrap?

Yes, and it is free. Unbleached paper, a linen ribbon and a handwritten card — write what you want on it in the order notes. We never put a price slip in a gift parcel.

Can a nursery order twenty of something?

Group orders of ten or more get 15% off and a six-week lead time, because we turn them as one batch. Email the bench with the toy and the count and you will get a date back the same week.

What if a wheel splits?

Spare wheels, axles, pegs and cords are €3 a bag, posted free, for as long as we make the toy. Send a photo and we will name the part. Nothing is glued shut, so a repair is a two-minute job.

What is the seconds table?

Every first Saturday the bench shop sells the toys that failed a finish check but not a strength check — usually a third off. They are not listed online; the list goes out in the letter the Thursday before.
